I feel that this year's camp is a bit different because as i am already secondary 3 therefore the camp is held at Jalan Bahtera. I can say that it is a new experience for me as i had always been camping in school no matter is it a school camp or a CCA camp. This is the first year that i have camp that are out of school.

I find that this year camp is a camp for me to know my classmates better and also for the whole class to bond together as all of us come from 3 different classes. It is also an opportunity for me to try all the activities that I did not try before such as kayaking.

During the first day, the whole class is not being very co-operative when we want to come up with a campfire item. When some of the classmates had already came up with the moves, some of the other classmates do not even want to try whether they can dance and they say they cannot. So, we sit together and discuss that since we are here, we should make the camp a fun and memorable one. After that, they did listen to all the things that are mentioned and did change their attitude.

I think that the whole camp is a success after all as the whole class had been bonded together and I get to know them better. I look forward to next year camp and hope that the whole class will be more united and make the camp a successful one too.

(286words)

my view on chong boon school rules

Does the students in the school follows the rules everyday and make sure that they do not break any of the rules? Or is it that they do not care about any rules in the school and also the punishment that they will get if they break the rules? Many students in Chong Boon Secondary School had been working very hard in creating a good image for the school. So if one of the students were conducting himself very badly in the public, it would cause some of the public to think that our school’s students are not well-educated in the school and it would impact a bad image on the school. So there must be rules in every school to develop the student’s character. There are three types of rules in Chong Boon Secondary School. The three main rules are attendance, attire/appearance and behaviour.

Now I will introduce the rule on attendance. Attendance of a student is very important. All latecomers will have to serve pride time depending on what time they arrive school. If the student did not appear for lessons during school time and also for any other school events and co-curriculum activity (CCA) with a valid reason given, it would be considered as truancy. Truancy would be treated as a serious offence. Pupil will be given a “Fair” conduct grade if that pupil plays truancy. No better it is related to school time or is it CCA. As for the CCA, there must be at least a 75% attendance in a year so as to get one CCA point for that year. This can once again shows that attendance is really important.

The next important rule is on attire/appearance. People from the public usually take the pupils’ attire and appearance as a basic way to rate the school on whether is it a good or a bad school. Pupils are not allowed to modify their uniform or else parents will be called. All of the pupils’ hair must not be dyed, tint or highlighted. The boys must keep their hair short so that the fringe would not touch the eyebrow and the hair at the back would not touch the collar. The girls’ fringe must not be able to touch the eyebrow and the hair that touch the collar must be tied up. They should not wear any ornaments and jewellerys or it would be confiscated

The last one is the behaviour of the pupils. The pupils’ behaviour is also important as it shows the public what would most likely be the attitude of all of the students and the parents would be afraid to sent their child to apply for Chong Boon for the secondary school they want to go after primary six. Bad behaviour include making the classrooms dirty, bringing foods out of canteen’s compound, cutting queue and also using of handphone in school compound.

So I seriously think that school rules is very important. All the bad things done such as not following the rules and not behaving themselves in the public would impact badly on Chong Boon. So there must be rules to develop the students’ character.

  525 words

desired future career

Career: Financial Accountant

Given the worldwide shortage of accountants, there is no shortage of job opportunities, whether in Singapore or other countries such as Australia and the United States. This is the job that I want to be and it will be my future career too. As almost every company needs an accountant and there are many companies in Singapore, there will be a lesser chance to be retrenched. I wanted to go into a business course in Polytechnic and also the salary for working as a Financial Accountant is quite high. I like mathematics and also numbers as well, so I think being an accountant suit me and I believe that I would enjoy being an accountant.

There are two categories – the financial accounting and the management accounting. I want to be the financial accountant. Financial accounting focus mainly on satisfying the historical information needs of external decision-makers such as stakeholders, bankers, pressure groups and governments. Recording, analyzing and preparing financial statements such as balance sheets, the profit and loss accounts, and cash flow records, does this. Such data is produced mainly for corporate governance of both local and international accounting standards. Others responsibilities depended on qualifications are to interpret accounts using trend and ratio analyses, project and forecast financial statements, managing the company’s flow and keeping financial records and prepare year-end financial statements for shareholders. These are the responsibilities of a financial accountant and it seems quite fun.

For me to be an accountant, I must have very good personalities so as to gain confidence from my employers, clients and the public. Some of the personal qualities that I must have are to be trustworthy, diligent, take pride in being meticulous and detailed in work. I must also be good at communication, analyzing and problem solving, be good with facts and figures. I believe that I have almost all of the personal qualities needed to have. For me to be an accountant, I must also have a diploma in Accountancy, Business or Business Administration, or equivalent. I must be partially completed Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or Chartered Institute of Managements Accountants (CIMA) qualification. I must also have a diploma in Accounting and Finance or Certified Accounting Technicians qualifications issued by the Acca Board. I must have a certificate in Business Accounting issued by Cima board and having a proficiency in Microsoft Office applications would be an advantage. These are the requirements for me to be an accountant.

There are a lot of future career prospects. It includes becoming a Financial Analyst, Cost Analyst, Tax Accountant, Cost Accountant, Management Accountant, Finance Manager, Financial Controller, Group Financial Controller, Vice-President – Accounting and Finance, Chief Financial Officer, or Finance Director, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer or Management Consultant.

I have to first, study hard and get good results for Secondary Three and “O” level especially for mathematics. Next, I have to go into a Polytechnic, which I will study, on business course, accountancy. And I will get my diploma of Accountancy. I will not stop until there, after my study in polytechnic; I can find a job as an accountant. At the same time, I will upgrade my skills and go to more courses regarding Accountancy. By doing this, my chance of being promoted would be higher.

507 words

chinese new year.

Chinese New Year meant a brand new year and it is a new start to a better year. Chinese new year starts with a full moon and end with a full moon fifteen days later. About one month before the Chinese New Year, the Chinese families will start to prepare for Chinese New Year. They will start to clean up their house and a sweep all the unluckiness and bad luck from that year away. The Chinese believe that during the Chinese New Year, they cannot sweep their house as it meant sweeping the good luck away. The Chinese would buy new clothes and shoes to be worn on Chinese New Year. They will also buy lots of paper couplets and also cute decorations to decorate their house. These decorations are usually red in color to symbolize good luck. They will also buy some New Year tidbits and drink to entertain their friends that come and visit them during the Chinese New Year. Just one day before the Chinese New Year, a family will come together for a reunion dinner at home or in a restaurant.
On New Year day itself, the parents will wake up earlier than their children to prepare red packets for their children, nephews, niece and the elderly. In some other family, the children prepare the red packet with their parents too. After that, all of them will start to prepare to visit their most seniors of the family. It will most likely be their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents. They will then exchange oranges and red packets. And they will stay at their house until night. It same goes for the second day too. On the third and fourth day of the Chinese New Year, the families will usually visit their relative, friends and colleagues. They will then exchange red packets for their respective children.

Chinese New Year is a joyous occasion for all the Chinese and non-Chinese. Although the non-chinese does not celebrate Chinese New Year, but they can go out and meet up with their friends during the Chinese New Year public holidays. But it will be inconvenient for them as many shops are not open. As for the Chinese children, they can collects lots of red packets and they can got a change to visit their relative and have fun with their cousins. And for the parents, they can visit their relative and also friends.
     402 words

singapore flyer experience

Had you wondered how you would feel when u is up high above the ground, which are about 42 storeys tall? It is a wonderful and marvelous experience as I had tried it. Almost the whole of my school secondary three pupils had tried it. We went to the Singapore Flyer, last Friday, which is on the 7th of March 2008. I will always remember this day. At first when I am in the bus that are going to the Singapore Flyer, I had expected that the capsule would be moving very fast and the capsule would be unstable and we would be moving about. I had also expected that the capsule would be very small that it can only carry five to six people. My other expectation is to be able to see my house and also Chong Boon Secondary School.

Very fast, we had reached the Singapore Flyer. When we reach there, I can see that the capsule is enormous and the capsule can travel up to very high. The whole place feels lively as many of my friends are commenting on the capsule and I can feel that everyone are excited, including me. We all hope that we can faster run up the second storey and go into the capsule. The place is cooling although there are no air-condition, because it has rain forest there. And the rain forest is really cooling. There are many plants and trees that can breathe in the carbon dioxide that we breathe out. It can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. The place also sounds peaceful when all of the pupils kept quiet. The whole place is clean and green. Finally after a few minutes, we can go up to the second storey to board the capsule.

Before I board the capsule, I am very scared. So I hold my friend's hand tightly while boarding into the capsule. When we had boarded the capsule, I am getting less and less afraid and I dare to walk around. The capsule is really moving very slow and it is stable. The capsule is really very big that it can carry up to about twenty plus people. The capsule started moving up slowly and it had went higher and higher. We can see more and more places when the capsule is moving higher and higher. But I am disappointed that I am not able to see my school and my house. I feel that it is really amazing that the Singapore Flyer can be so big. All of my expectations are not met.

There is one moment that is very funny. I think Mrs. Angela Lee still can remember that. When the capsule that I am in is at the highest of the Singapore Flyer, there is one capsule below us. Claudia, Ting Zhi and I wanted to take some photos as a memory so we lean towards the glass and take the photo. Suddenly, our classmates called us not to lean towards the glass. And we asked them why. They called us to look down to the capsule that is below ours. We saw Mrs. Lee trying to call us not to lean towards the glass and so we move front. We thought that something would happen to the glass if we lean towards the glass. But it is not. After the ride, we saw Mrs. Lee and she told us that the boy are able to see us from below and we understand why she call us not to lean towards the glass. It is really funny.

Overall, I think that the trip is really worth going. It is very fun and it is an exciting experience. The whole class had taken a photo to be kept as a memory. I think that if not for the trip, I would not be able to go to Singapore Flyer even in the whole life. I really had to thanks the school for organizing this trip. I would surely recommend my friends and my family members to go to Singapore Flyer. I would tell them all the experience and feeling that I have before, during and after the ride. That would make them feel that it would be fun. We can also learn a lot of things from the trip to Singapore Flyer. Example is that I know that we can keep our self cool even if there are no air-condition and fans.

How technology : a promise or a threat?

New technology, is it a threat or a promise? Technology is now very advanced in many of the countries. It can be a threat as well as a promise. It is a threat as some people misuse technology to invent bombs and also to hack other people accounts. This can caused a lot of harms to people. Inventing bombs can cause many people to die or injured. Some technology invention that can caused harm is the invention of cars. Cars are letting out harmful gases such as carbon monoxide and chlorofluorocarbons ( CFC ) that will cause climate change and it can harm people’s health when people breathe in too much of these harmful gases.

However, cars are also a good technology as it can help to make journey shorter and save time. There is a new technology which is the invention of a free of fossil – fuel vehicles. Some other good technologies are mobile phones, laptop and television. This can be a source of entertainment.

Therefore, I strongly agree that technology is more of a promise than threat. They are more goods than bad in technology.

Had the internet caused more harm than good?

I disagree that the interned is causing more harm than good. Internet is a technology that many people know as Internet is becoming more and more common now a days. Most people find the Internet useful when they are doing homework, project or even business. For most people, connecting to the Internet is a must and not a need anymore. This shows that the Internet is useful and is doing more good than harm. Thus, I strongly disagree that Internet is causing more harm than good.

The Internet can help the students with their school works and also project. Why is this so? It is because whenever there is a project, the students will have to find a lot of information with the topic that the teacher had given. Going to the library to borrow books that is relevant to the topic is not enough. Thus, the students are needed to go to the Internet to find relevant information on the topic given. It will be easier as the Internet has a lot of information and they can get the information that they need in a few minutes. Some people may not have the time to go to the library to borrow the books and it will be difficult to find the information in the library as the library is very big and there are a lot of books in the library. So using the Internet is a smarter way and a more efficient way.

Secondly, the Internet can also help the businessman or businesswoman. Some of them need to take care of their child when they are working so the Internet can help them with that. They can now stay at home to work and also at the same time taking care of their child. When they are at home, they can use the Internet to do their business so they does not necessary have to go to the company to work. This can help many of the businesswoman and businessman to have the time to take care of their child and not worrying that any thing will happen to their child.

Of course, the Internet has its harm too. Some of the students will play online games through the Internet. This may affects their studies, as they will be addicted to playing and not wanting to do their homework or projects. But however, not everyone will be like this. Some will play but they will still do their homework. Playing games may help to make them feel less stressful so playing for a while is alright.

The Internet can help a lot of people with their business, homework and projects. It can also be use to make them feel less stressful and the businesswoman and businessman will be able to take care of their child. Once again, I strongly disagree that the Internet is causing more harm than good.
  481 words

An interesting incident that happen during the December holiday!

I have one twins sister. My sister and I started working at MacDonald since last year June. We work every Saturday and Sunday when we are schooling. When we are not schooling, we will be working almost everyday during the holidays. There is not exception during the December holiday.

As I can remember, there are quite a lot of interesting incidents that happen during the December holiday when we are working in MacDonald. But I can remember one accident very clearly as it is really interesting. I remembered that my sister and me were working together taking charge of one counter. I am the cashier and my sister is the runner, runner is in charge of taking the food and displaying it on the tray. There is not much customer that day so I can remember that customer. That customer came to eat with his family members. When I had taken his order, I called him to proceed to his left. And his family members went to find a place to sit. He waited there so that my sister can take his food to the tray. When my sister had finish his order, the customer realized that we are twins as we are standing together and he asked, " Are both of you twins? Both of you look so alike. " And we replied, " Yes! ", he then said, " Are both of you here to help advertise MacDonald? " as it is not common that we are twins and both are working in MacDonald together. We laugh and he also laughs. And he walked away.

That is not much interesting. But there is another day when both my twins sister and I are working together. We served that customer again. This time, I worked at the Dessert Kiosk; Dessert Kiosk is the place that sells only ice cream. At that time, my sister had finished work so she came to help me. This is when we saw that customer again and he comes with his family members. And he says to his family members, " They are twins and they helped to advertised MacDonald. " Because of this sentence, my sister and I remembered that he is the customer that both of us served last time. This is really interesting as my sister and I served the same customer together during both days and we can remember him and also he can remember us.

406 words
